The Discworld series consists of a large number of books now, (almost filling a complete shelf above my bed). This incredible series which shows no signs of stopping started in 1985 with the publication of "The Colour of Magic" which introduced us for the first time to the planet which sits on the back of four elephants standing on the great A'Tuin space turtle. We met the failed wizzard Rincewind as well as Twoflower not forgetting luggage. Normally with any type of series we follow the same set of characters. This is one thing that sets Discworld apart from the rest, we are actually focusing on the planet rather than a set of characters, Having said that there one character which appears in every novel, although it might just be a line or two or a word even. He talks "A BIT LIKE THIS!", he is of course Death. A number of the later books feature Sam Vimes of the watch along with Carrot Ironfounderson, Nobby Nobs, Fred Colon, Angua & Detritus (the last two being a female Werewolf & a Troll). Other recurrring characters include three witches Granny Weatherax, Nanny Ogg & Mistress Garlick. We also encounter the head Wizzard Mustrum Riddicully a number of times along with the slighty "sane" Basar (he takes the dried frog pills for it). The Librarian (an organ-utan) also appears regulary.
